African Region Childhood Heart Disease Summit – recording available

On February 13, in celebration of Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week, 5 African CHD Global ARCH patient organizations presented an outstanding conference featuring heart specialists and patient organization leaders. Tendai Moyo, founder of Brave Little Hearts Zimbabwe, opened the summit and spoke about the importance of access to lifesaving care: “Global evidence shows that mortality is driven not by lack of medical knowledge, but by late diagnosis, referral pathways, workforce shortages, and inequitable access.”

On February 27, during Childhood Heart Disease Month, Brave Little Hearts Zimbabwe successfully hosted the Zimbabwe Chapter of the 1st Patient-Led African Childhood Heart Disease Summit in Bulawayo. The Zimbabwe live event was sponsored by the H M Habib Cardiac Endowment Fund, reinforcing Zimbabwe’s role within the continental and global movement advocating for equitable cardiac care for children. You can read the Press Release HERE.

“Patient organizations refuse to remain invisible. Across Africa, families and advocates are bringing childhood-onset heart disease into NCD strategies, universal healthcare discussions, and lifecourse approaches to care – calling for integration rather than fragmentation.”
-Tendai Moyo, Founder, Brave Little Hearts Zimbabwe
